Hi everyone,
So, after months of preparations and planning, the day has finally arrived when I will be travelling to South Korea for my student exchange. I'm so excited! However, in typical male fashion it is now 7 hours until my flight and I'm still packing my suitcase...a suitcase which will contain my life possessions for the next 4-5 months!
I will be travelling on QR882 Qatar Airways from Doha to Seoul, arriving at 16:25 local time (28th). I have booked an airport pick up service and I'm to meet them "In front of McDonald's". My initial thought of this was disgust considering I'm flying essentially to the other side of the world to a place with a completely different culture, yet the first thing I see will be the golden arches of an American fast food restaurant!! Luckily I've managed to speak to someone else from the exchange who is going to be on the 8 hour 45 minute flight- so at least I will have some company! It's insane how small the world is becoming with tools such as social media, having already been in contact with people that I'm going to be studying with.
My time in Doha has been great. I've had a lot of time to relax and catch up with old friends, whilst at the same time organise myself for my big adventure. I've been given so much support from close family and friends before going on this trip and I wish I could thank you all individually! Thank you also to all those that made this trip possible- it really is going to be the experience of a lifetime.
I managed to try out some Korean food this week at the Korean Garden Restaurant in Doha. I tried a bit of everything from Kimchi to sushi. I found a lot of the food to be very spicy but tasty- at least I know I won't starve in Korea!
When I arrive in Seoul, I'm being taken to my accommodation. I think the journey is 60-90 minutes. Once I arrive I need to go out and buy some bedding from a store nearby- if not, it may be a cold sleep! My orientation is on the 30th so I'm just going to try get my bearings the first day or so and meet a lot of new faces. There's already talk of going out for welcome drinks tomorrow night- why not?!
Words can't describe how excited I am for this trip. I can't wait to share my stories and adventures with you all. The next time I blog, it will be from the s(e)oul of Asia!
Stay tuned! :)
